Welcome to the Connecticut Chapter of the American Harp Society!
A Note from the President:
Happy New Year!
We have exciting events coming up for harp students and teachers and anyone who loves to hear the harp, on March 29th! Remember –everyone can join the CT Chapter, and I hope you will join us!
On Sunday, March 29th, the CT Chapter of the American Harp Society will host a Masterclass with CT Chapter harp students performing and receiving comments, and a Concert with harp professionals from around the state performing, too. Come and perform or come and listen to the Class and/or the concert! This will take place in centrally located Hamden, CT
Any CT Chapter member of any age or level can contact me to participate in the Masterclass. And anyone can join the Chapter! There is a $20 fee to play for the Class, and you will receive comments from CT master teachers. It's a great opportunity to take a piece to the next level, to get to perform for others, and to receive helpful suggestions and feedback. Please see our events page to sign up by FEBRUARY 15th! NOTE - we may not have time for everyone who wants to participate, so students will be admitted on a first-come – first-served basis.
The Masterclass will take place from 2:00-3:30, we will have a break and refreshments, and time for camaraderie and games for the young kids, and then we will have a Harp Concert with area professionals performing solos and ensembles from 4:00 - 5:00. The concert is free to CT Chapter Members, there is a $10 fee for non-members.
Harp professionals - would you like to play on the concert? Since timing is limited, please make the piece a shorter one, and see the CT Chapter Event page for info to sign up by February 15th. NOTE - we may not have time for everyone who wants to participate, so performers will be admitted on a first-come – first-served basis, and keeping a variety of repertoire in mind, too.
Everything will take place at the Unitarian Society of New Haven Church, 700 Hartford Turnpike, Hamden, CT 06517.
Please renew your membership so you can learn about, and take part in all our events, and remember that CT Chapter membership is separate from the national American Harp Society membership.
We have a great Board of dedicated harpists who plan and organize and run our events. A huge shout out to everyone who makes our Chapter flourish. Would you like to be involved? Please let us know!
Here’s a recap of some of our CT Chapter events we have had this Season:
We started off in September with a Teacher Round Table at the Hartt School of Music in Hartford. Harp Teachers from throughout CT and beyond gathered together to share ideas and thoughts and concerns. It was a great time to connect and learn! Thanks to Susan Knapp Thomas and Mae Cooke for organizing the event.
We had a fascinating online workshop in October with the amazing Amy Turk on arranging popular music for harp and incorporating percussion on the harp – not percussion instruments – but using the harp to create percussive sounds to add to an arrangement. If you missed it, and you are a member, contact me and I can send you a link so you can watch the class.
And we had in-person Holiday concerts in December with students and teachers in New Canaan and Madison, CT. Thanks to Megan Sesma for hosting in Madison, and to Sarah Goss for joining me in hosting in New Canaan!
Thanks for your participation, and your love of the harp.
I hope to see you soon -
Warmly, Wendy Kerner, President, CT Chapter American Harp Society
